The "Healthy Aging Workshop 2" project, conducted by the Social Development Community in which our vocational school students participated and supported under the ÜNİDES program, has been successfully completed. Within the scope of the project, our vocational school students and elderly individuals came together to carry out production-based activities and engage in meaningful exchanges that strengthen intergenerational solidarity.
During the project, various "do-it-yourself" activities were organized according to the interests and skills of the elderly individuals. Volunteer students and elderly individuals enjoyed activities such as frame making, bracelet design, fabric bag painting, mug painting, felt flower making, and sapling planting together. Thanks to the joint production processes, while the participation of elderly individuals in social life was supported, students also had the opportunity to develop their volunteering, empathy, and social responsibility skills.
Additionally, a technical visit was organized to two different Alzheimer Living Centers located in Denizli as part of the project. The participating students increased their professional knowledge and experience by examining the care services offered at the center and the applications aimed at elderly individuals on-site.
Throughout the activities, strong social bonds were established between students and elderly individuals, while intergenerational communication and solidarity were significantly strengthened. The project, which attracted great interest from participants, contributed to increasing the social interactions of elderly individuals while enhancing students' awareness of the field of aging.
The advisor of the Social Development Community, Instructor Özge Kutlu, stated that the project brought together young people and elderly individuals around a common purpose, expressing that such volunteer-based efforts significantly contribute to strengthening social solidarity.
